Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (Part 1) Plot Summary...
This film is based on the historical events of the Wushe Incident.
In 1895, after the Treaty of Shimonoseki, Japan forcibly took over Taiwan, conquering various regions of the island. In the remote mountainous areas of Taiwan, the Seediq people in the Wushe area, led by the courageous young Mo'na Rudao (played by You Daqing), fiercely resisted the Japanese forces. Despite the Japanese coveting the abundant resources of the Wushe area and attempting to invade, the Seediq people put up a strong fight, resulting in heavy casualties. Eventually, the Japanese managed to infiltrate Wushe by exploiting inter-tribal conflicts among the indigenous peoples. Mo'na Rudao had no choice but to surrender, but the fire of resistance never died out within him. By 1930, after years of Japanese efforts to "civilize" the indigenous people of Wushe, the imposition of Japanese language and other so-called civilized practices did not bring equality to the indigenous population. The oppression and harsh labor imposed by the Japanese eroded the traditional ways and dignity of the Seediq people. Years of accumulated anger finally erupted in full force in that year!
