A brief introduction to the plot...
Just moved to London, Tony (James Fox) hired a man named Barrett (Dirk Bogarde) as a servant in his home, entrusting him with everything big and small, Barrett, smart and capable, did not disappoint Tony, quickly gaining his trust.
Tony's girlfriend Susan (Wendy Craig) does not like Barrett, as she vaguely senses an ambiguous relationship between Tony and Barrett's sister Vera (Sarah Miles). Later, Tony is shocked to discover that Vera is actually Barrett's lover, feeling deceived, Tony dismisses Barrett. By chance, Tony and Barrett meet again in a small pub, they re-establish their master-servant relationship, but beneath this seemingly peaceful relationship lies a world of intrigue and deception.
